Installing Linux in Virtualbox

 What is Virtualbox

VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. 

Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3.Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x and 4.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, and OpenBSD.VirtualBox is being actively developed with frequent releases and has an ever growing list of features,supported guest operating systems and platforms it runs on. Uses Of Virtualbox 

Oracle VM VirtualBox is cross-platform virtualization software.
It allows users to extend their existing computer to run multiple operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Oracle Solaris, at the same time.


Specs for Virtualbox 

4 GB Ram (minimum)
Atleast i3 processor or higher
40 GB Storage (minimum)
Good Internet Connection

Installing Linux based Operating Systems in Virtualbox

1. Go to Control panel, search for programs, click on Turn Windows Features on or off. 



2. Aftet clicking on that, scroll down and search for Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platoform. Select those two options and click ok. It will ask you to restart your pc so, restart it once.




3.  Now, open browser and install the disk image file of the os link - Download. Click on the link and it will take you to a new page, wait a second and it will ask you to save or cancel the file.
Click on save. I prefer Ubuntu for beginners.






4. Download and install virtualbox link - Download. Click yes, agree and install it by click next and next again.

5. Install the extention pack for virtualbox. link - Download. Open the file and keep click next and continue. It will install.

6. After install virtualbox and adding extention pack, Open Virtualbox and click on 



7. After that, give name to your virtual machine, select type as Linux, search for Ubuntu 64 bit in versions and select it. 


  

8. Increase the memory and processor according to your use. But, make sure you don't increase it more than the green area...




9. Click on next and then give space to your machine 50 GB



10. Click on next and then click on finish. 

 
 



 10. Then select your virtual machine from the list and click on "settings".




11. Select "Display" in the list and increase the "video Memory" to the end.




12. Then select "Storage" and click on "empty" under "Controller : IDE" .


 

13. Click on the cd icon just after the option "Optical Drive" and then select the option "Choose a disk file...".



14. It will open a new window to locate your downloaded file. There you browse to your "Downloads" folder and Double-Click on "ubuntu-22.04.1-desktop-amd64" file.

 







16. Now,  click on ok and then click on start.





17. It will take few seconds to boot up and then press the Enter Key.







18. Then you need to wait for some time and allow it to boot up in 2 minutes until it comes to the desktop.






19. Then, it will show you two options. You can try the os by selecting "Try Ubuntu". But if you want to install, then click on 
the "Install Ubuntu".
